Q & A

Q: What is the responsibility of a copywriter?

A good copywriter is responsible for conducting interviews and relevant research. Other responsibilities include writing with the right tone of voice, understanding project requirements, collaborating with other professionals, understanding SEO principles, understanding the marketing side, proofreading, and editing. My background in English Creative Writing and User Experience Design is helpful when it comes to copywriting.

Q: How do you handle pressure in every project?

One of my best strengths is time management. I determine my priorities and set goals for every project. I faced pressure when I worked as a News Writer at UW The Daily. There was a time when my editor asked me to finish two articles someone left off and researched three different topics in one week. I wrote in the Associated Press (AP) style and managed to interview all the sources. I submitted everything on time and with accuracy.

Q:  What makes you different from other copywriters and content writers?

I believe a global perspective is essential in excellent writing. I speak English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Japanese, and I am learning Korean. I have lived and worked in different cities, including Honolulu, Seattle, Tokyo, Taipei, and Hong Kong. My language skills are helpful when it comes to understanding and researching projects. I can access different primary and secondary resources and translate them when needed. I am confident in incorporating marketing ideas into every writing project.

Q: How have you altered your writing to suit different demographics? What impact did these changes have?

I pay attention to different factors, including gender, age, social status, life cycle, occupation, income, and generation. I have studied abroad at the University of London and learned the difference between British English and American English. In the field of user experience design, localization is the key. I apply the same logic in copywriting. I alter my writing to match the targeted audience. For example, I understood the culture in Taiwan and therefore edited the warning sign from “slip and fall down carefully” to “watch your steps.” The original phrase was translated word by word from the Chinese characters. There were also paragraphs and content from companies I’ve worked with that had problems.

For example, I shortened and separated long paragraphs into smaller segments for Instagram posts. I made sure the Google Analytics and insights supported the changes I made. The shorter sentences have always been concise and powerful for attracting younger audiences. I wrote in the third person and used a neutral tone of voice when crafting a company’s history. I successfully led my team in my previous company, amplifying 6,000 followers to 10.5 K followers in six months.

Q: What do you like to do during your free time?

I'm a dog person and I love walking my golden retriever named Miso.

Q: Describe your personality.

I am open-minded, creative, and hard-working. I bring energy into the room and many friends describe me as a human golden retriever!
