How I brought stakeholders together, resolved content and structural challenges, and defined a page framework to help patients find appropriate laboratory and blood draw services.

UW Medicine - Content Designer | UX Writer | Project Lead

The Challenge

Patients needed a way to find laboratory and blood draw locations, but each clinic had different requirements and exceptions, including differences in walk-in availability, appointment requirements, and patient eligibility. At the same time, a searchable location directory was not available, making it necessary to develop a page structure that would help patients navigate these differences without relying on search.

My Approach

I worked across stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify clinic-specific exceptions, and identify the information patients needed to make informed decisions about where to go.

I then determined how to organize the information into a usable page structure. This involved deciding which clinics needed customized content cards to communicate their unique requirements, and which could be grouped into broader categories to make locations easier for patients to find. I translated these decisions into a structured page framework for UX designers and developers to implement.

The Outcome

The resulting page structure balanced clinic-specific requirements with a consistent navigation experience, helping patients identify relevant laboratory and blood draw locations while giving the design and development teams a clear framework to build from.

From Stakeholder Insights to Content Strategy

By gathering requirements from stakeholders and drawing on my experience writing provider bios, I identified the questions patients were most likely to have and determined which FAQs to include. These decisions helped shape the page structure and ensure the content reflected both patient needs and the unique requirements of individual clinics.
